Head of Product

Role purpose

Reporting into the CEO and working closely with the Founders, the Head of Product will lead and own our Product (web app and mobile app), managing the product team and working closely with the development and customer teams. They will implement improvements and key features that will take our company through to scale - both in user growth and expansion to new geographic areas. As a company we have a deep customer obsession, and the Head of Product will deliver an exceptional user experience.

What you will be doing

  • Taking our product to scale, growing users and revenue
  • Develop and managing the product roadmap and it’s success. Working closely with the founders to prioritise key features and improvements to deliver on company goals and the product vision. Using skill and expertise to communicate and deliver changes to the team.
  • Deliver an exceptional user experience. Having a deep understanding of our customers and working with the customer and development teams to deliver the best in-app experience
  • Own data tracking and implementation across the business. Review current tools and processes and optimise to ensure that the team has the data they need to make informed decisions and achieve outcomes.
  • As the product leader, you will lead the product vision and inspire and coach the team to deliver a world class product. This is a cross functional role, managing the product team and working closely with the development, marketing and customer team to deliver on the roadmap and exceed targets and outcomes
  • Switching from working on the big picture and product vision, to getting into the details of what the product will be. Documenting and communicating this appropriately and effectively to the team and other stakeholders.
  • Constantly run tests and other lean methods to ensure we are efficiently deploying the most beneficial changes to the product.
  • Keep up to date, investigate and analyse the product market for opportunities for validation and testing.
  • Improving efficiencies for the customer, marketing and development teams in their use and delivery of the app and data.

We expect you to have:

  • Experience of successfully taking a product to scale and expansion
  • 8+ years of product management experience, 2 years in a leadership capacity
  • The ability to expertly prioritise among opportunities, balance the needs of our customers with those of our business, and clearly communicate the rationale behind your decisions
  • An obsession for our customers, and able to work directly with our designer and developers to ship delightful experiences and products
  • Good instincts matched with deep analytical thinking. You're comfortable defining and tracking key business and usage success metrics.
  • A strong technical background, comprehensive understanding of engineering roles and agile process. With the ability to break down and communicate technical and complex problems
  • Be skilled in coordinating teams to take a product strategy through agile cycles of research, ideation, prototyping, testing and execution.
  • Experience achieving and exceeding goals through your perseverance, determination and strong work ethic
  • Are a great communicator - you are clear and concise and you speak plainly and truthfully, which has gained you a great reputation as a manager, leader and teammate.

Engineering/Technical Lead

Role purpose

Reporting into the CEO and working closely with the Founders as part of the Leadership Team, our Engineering Lead will lead their team to deliver on the Product Roadmap and create a high quality, functional and customer focused Product (web app and mobile app). You will lead the team to continuously improve and accomplish more by managing processes and resources to ensure maximum results. This role is for someone who will (and loves to) to get their hands dirty in code as well as lead a team to deliver on targets and work with the Leadership team to set and achieve long term goals.

What you will be doing:

  • Enable our business to scale through technology - working with the Head of Product and Founders on developing and delivering our Product Roadmap.
  • Own the code and health of our tech - deep and growing understanding of how to effectively tool our code for scale. Understand and apply principles to effectively test, track, log, monitor, and evaluate the ongoing quality of our product.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction including architecture and implementation of system.
  • Define processes, establishing best practices and technical standards amongst the engineering team.
  • You are deeply technical and detail oriented, you will make decisions and solve problems about architecture, devops, testing and code quality.
  • Effectively engage with Product and other teams to collaborate on good technical decisions with a deep level of understanding of the impact of those decisions.
  • Set and achieve success metrics for the engineering team.
  • Lead the Engineering team - Recruit, retain and develop Aplayers.

Who are you:

  • You are a big picture thinker but love to get into the details. A hustler and problem solver, you are as comfortable writing code as you are running learning sessions, coaching your team, explaining complex issues and working on long-term product strategy.
  • You are both tech obsessed AND customer obsessed. You aren’t distracted by new and shiny technology and are focused on delivering a quality product experience for our customers, playing to the strengths of your team and achieving business goals.
  • Are a great communicator both inside and outside the technical team - you are clear and concise and you speak plainly and truthfully, which has gained you a great reputation as a manager, leader and teammate.
  • You are a team player and will stand up for what you believe is the best for the business rather than for yourself or your team, also knowing where to support others and when to back down.
  • You know about and appreciate that good devops makes for speed and agility.

We expect you to have:

  • Experience of successfully taking a product to scale and expansion.
  • 8+ years of development experience, with 1-2 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Knowledge of Docker; Node.js; React; React Native; Rust; Ruby on Rails.
  • Experience recruiting and developing an engineering team.
  • A strong technical background, comprehensive understanding of engineering roles and agile process. With the ability to break down and communicate technical and complex problems.
  • Good instincts matched with deep analytical thinking. You're comfortable defining and tracking key business and usage success metrics.
  • Experience achieving and exceeding goals through your perseverance, determination and strong work ethic.

Key outcomes:

  • Complete our migration to Microservices.
  • Improve team efficiency and scalability through process implementation and best practices.
  • Implement machine learning into our improved matching algorithms.
